MY NAME

IS

GORD COLOGNA

My name is Gord Cologna. My wife Carol and I bought K&P Auto and Marine Electric in 1997.

At the time of purchase the original company was strictly rebuilding Starters and Alternators. They were also running with no computer, answering service or 1-800 number.

The first thing we did was apply those 3 pieces of the puzzle. Over a short period of time we added more products for our customers. Such as Cole Hersee Switches and parts. Electrical connections.

Custom battery cables.  Batteries. Anything to make our store a one stop shop.

We started to expand our skills of rebuilding of different things; blower motors, power window motors, power seat motors, wiper motors. Even trim/tilt motors for boats, windlass motors, plow motors, salt spreader motors along with anything to help the customer.

We then expanded into the performance industry where there was a need for more custom work in higher amp alternators and stronger starters. This also brought in more aftermarket products for Cars & Trucks. This in turn brought in more starter/alternator customers.

Our customers then started bringing us AC motors and we expanded into repairing different motors like pool and hot tub motors, power tools etc.

We decided that no job would be turned away. If we could find a way to repair the product then we did. We exhaust every avenue that we can to make our customers happy.

Our motto for the longest time was “If it runs on DC it’s repaired by K&P”. Since we have opened to new horizons, we will change it to something a friend of mine once told me in my teenage years:

“WHAT IS HARD IS EASY, BUT WHAT IS IMPOSSIBLE CAN BE DONE”

We Are A Green Company

According to the Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA), remanufacturers have been "recycling" automotive parts for more than 80 years. During World War II, natural resources were scarce forcing the country to reuse automotive and truck parts in order to meet demand. This gave rise to what was later named the remanufacturing industry.

Financial Impacts

Environmental Benefits

Energy Conservation

Pollution Reduction

Raw Material Use Reduction

Landfill Space Conservation

The financial impacts of remanufacturing are significant. Remanufactured components cost about 40 to 60 percent less than a new component. In the case of starters and alternators, remanufactured units are about half the cost of a new unit. The high quality of a K&P remanufactured electric component is not only "green" but also financially sound.

The environmental benefits of remanufacturing are significant. APRA stated that the car parts remanufacturing industry benefits the environment in various ways, which include the remaining points.

EBay Motors estimates that remanufacturing provides an 85% reduction in energy usage over the manufacturing of a new unit. In addition, automotive and truck parts are kept out of the re-smelting process longer leading to the conservation of millions of barrels of oil or comparable forms of energy.

Remanufacturing helps keep components out of the

re-smelting process for a longer time frame reducing air pollution generated by re-smelting. In addition, new part manufacturing increases pollution throughout the manufacturing process whereas remanufacturing eliminates new part requirements.

Remanufacturing gives a product numerous lives instead of just one, thereby saving non-renewable raw materials. Rebuilders annually save millions of tons of non- renewable natural resources, such as iron, aluminum and copper.

Landfills are spared from accepting millions of tons of metallic and nonmetallic waste because of the monetary value the industry places on parts. This value is referred to as a "core charge" and is returned to the source of the worn out parts, ensuring that parts are returned to be rebuilt.

In addition to carbon footprint reductions related to remanufacturing, Wilson has implemented numerous initiatives to further enhance its GREEN position. K&P's Lean Manufacturing Plan reduces various types of waste involved in the remanufacturing process, including material scrap, power usage, inventory management and more. Examples include reducing component waste through process improvements, reducing electrical usage by installing more efficient lighting systems in our facilities and obtaining very high first pass yield quality standards. In addition, our employees are searching daily for ways in which to lessen our impact on the planet.
